College-Bound Kansans: Apply for Free This Week!

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas “Apply Free Days” program has returned, offering all state residents a special, three-day window to apply to public colleges and universities without paying application fees.

The initiative begins Monday, October 6, and continues through Wednesday, October 8, 2025. During this time, the application fees are waived for undergraduate admission to any of Kansas’ seven public universities, 19 community colleges, or six technical colleges. Many private institutions are also participating.

The fee waiver is available to any Kansas resident applying for an undergraduate program, including:

  • Prospective first-time freshmen
  • Transfer students
  • Returning students

The state is pushing the program to lower financial barriers for students, building on the success of last year’s event. The 2024 “Apply Free Days” saw prospective students save approximately $481,570 in application fees.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to secure admission without the initial cost. After applying, the next step for all students is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to explore financial aid and scholarship options.
