Sedgwick Man Sentenced to Nearly 19 Years in Prison for Child Sex Crimes in Harvey County

HARVEY COUNTY, Kansas – A Kansas man who confessed to child sex crimes has been sentenced to a substantial prison term, the Harvey County District Attorney’s office announced.

On July 16, Harvey County District Court Judge Jason Lane handed down a sentence of 224 months – equivalent to 18 years and 8 months – in prison to 39-year-old Jerad Carmichael of Sedgwick, Kansas.

Carmichael’s sentencing follows his guilty plea on May 1, 2025, to one count of Rape of a Child Under the Age of 14 and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy. The offenses occurred between April 1, 2023, and April 21, 2024, within Harvey County. Authorities confirmed that the victim was under the age of 10 at the time the crimes were committed.

In addition to his prison sentence, Carmichael will be subject to lifetime post-release supervision upon his release. He is also mandated to register as a sexual offender under the stringent Kansas Offender Registration Act.

The successful prosecution of this case was a collaborative effort, with significant assistance from the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center.
