Chiefs Sign OG Trey Smith to New Contract

The Chiefs and Smith Agreed To The Deal on Tuesday

Trey Smith is sticking around in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.

Smith, who was set to play on the franchise tag in 2025 if a new deal couldn’t be reached by this week’s deadline, agreed to a new contract with Kansas City on Tuesday.

“I’d like to congratulate Trey on a well-deserved deal. Trey embodies everything we look for in a player – toughness, intelligence, and a relentless work ethic. He’s an elite guard in this league, and we’re excited to have him locked in long-term,” General Manager Brett Veach said. “I’d also like to thank my staff including Chris Shea, Jack Wolov and Ryan Herman, as well as Jimmy Sexton and Tory Dandy with CAA for their ability to work together to get this done. This is a big day for Trey and a great day for Chiefs Kingdom.”

The No. 226 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Smith emerged from those humble beginnings to establish himself as one of the league’s premier guards over the last four seasons. He has started 67 games in that time, logging more than 1,000 regular-season snaps in each campaign.

Additionally, among players with 2,500+ pass-blocking snaps over the last five seasons, Smith is one of just five offensive linemen to yield fewer than 10 total sacks. He was also ranked by ESPN as the No. 4 overall interior lineman in the NFL heading into 2025.

A much-deserved new contract now in-hand, Smith will continue to call Kansas City home for years to come.
