Royals Shut Out Diamondbacks Behind Lorenzen’s Gem and Witt Jr.’s Milestone Homer

PHOENIX, AZ – July 6, 2025 – The Kansas City Royals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 on Sunday at Chase Field, largely thanks to a dominant pitching performance from Michael Lorenzen and a record-extending home run by Bobby Witt Jr.

Lorenzen (5-8) was in masterful form, stifling the Diamondbacks’ offense over seven innings. He struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits and one walk, keeping Arizona off-balance with a potent mix of mid-90s fastballs and changeups. Lorenzen started strong, striking out the side in the first inning, and didn’t surrender a hit until Randal Grichuk’s two-out double in the fifth.

The Royals’ offense provided all the support Lorenzen would need in the fifth inning. Bobby Witt Jr. blasted his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot off Diamondbacks starter Anthony DeSclafani (0-1). This homer was not only the first hit of the game for either team, but it also extended Witt’s team-record road hitting streak to an impressive 26 games. This streak ties for the second-longest in the last decade, matching Marcus Semien’s 2021 run and trailing only Trea Turner’s 32-game streak from 2021-22.

Following Witt’s blast, Salvador Perez added another solo homer, his 10th of the season. John Rave then chased DeSclafani from the game with a run-scoring single, and Kyle Isbel followed with another RBI single, extending Kansas City’s lead to 4-0. DeSclafani finished with four runs allowed on four hits and six strikeouts in four innings.

The Diamondbacks struggled to generate any offense, managing only three hits throughout the entire game and failing to advance a runner past second base. This loss marks their fourth in their last five outings.

The Royals, who have now won four of their last six games, will return home to Kauffman Stadium to open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. Left-hander Noah Cameron (2-4, 2.56 ERA) is slated to start the opener for Kansas City. Pregame coverage is set for 6:00 PM CDT, with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM CDT on Superstar Country 102.5 FM & 1530 AM KQNK.
