Elite performances and record-challenging times lit up Cessna Stadium at the 2025 KSHSAA Class 3A State Track & Field Championships this past weekend. The meet showcased a deep field of Kansas talent across every discipline, but none stood taller than Hesston’s Ashley Lehman and Burlington’s Brody Anderson, who each turned in commanding sprint sweeps.


Girls Highlights

Lehman Delivers Triple Gold for Hesston

Junior Ashley Lehman was unstoppable, winning the 100 meters (11.99), 200 meters (24.63), and 400 meters (54.65). She also claimed gold in the pole vault, clearing 12-04.00, making her a rare four-event state champion. Her performances set the tone for Hesston throughout the weekend.

Hoback, Strain Star in Hurdles and Relays

Burlington senior Keely Hoback ran a blistering 14.18 to win the 100-meter hurdles and helped anchor Burlington’s victorious 4×100 (49.19) and 4×400 (4:04.15) relay teams. Meanwhile, Ellie Strain of Wellsville took second in the 100 hurdles, won the 300 hurdles (45.55), and placed third in the 100 and 200, showcasing her all-around sprinting strength.

Distance Crowns Go to Wichita-Trinity and Prairie View

Junior Emily Hein (Wichita-Trinity) dominated the distance events, winning the 1600 (5:07.16) and 3200 (11:05.39). In the 800, Kinsey Zorn (Russell) prevailed in 2:19.92, while LaCygne-Prairie View’s Bree Allen was a strong runner-up in the 1600 and 3200.

Field Event Standouts

  • Kaylee Hagerman (Larned) won the long jump with a leap of 18-04.50.
  • Reece Franklin (Frontenac) captured the high jump (5-08.00) and was runner-up in triple jump.
  • Aryn Michaelis (Lakin) soared to 37-09.50 to win the triple jump and also placed in hurdles and high jump.
  • Tatum Seyfert (Beloit) swept the shot put (46-04.25) and discus (147-07).

Osage City freshman Kaelyn Boss also had a breakout meet, winning the javelin (136-11) and medaling in the shot put.


Boys Highlights

Anderson Dazzles in Sprint Sweep

Burlington senior Brody Anderson left no doubt about his speed. He stormed to victory in the 100 (10.49) and 200 meters (21.18). Only a relay absence kept him from additional medals, but his marks set the bar for Kansas sprinters.

Ritchie and Wichita-Collegiate Excel

Sophomore Timmy Ritchie (Wichita-Collegiate) won the 400 (47.00) and was second in both the 100 and 200, helping Collegiate rack up major points. Teammate AJ Batiste added a bronze in the 100 (10.88).

Distance Dominance from Wichita-Trinity and Holcomb

  • Caleb Tofteland (Wichita-Trinity) dominated the 1600 (4:12.77) and 3200 (9:09.62) with elite times.
  • Holcomb’s Brody Deniston followed closely in both races and later anchored Holcomb’s distance relay strength, helping teammate Landen Leonard to a silver in the 800 and third in the 400.
  • Southeast of Saline’s Brayden Walker had top-five finishes in all three distance events.

Hurdle Power from Goodland and Colby

  • Linkon Cure (Goodland) won the 110 hurdles (14.36) and medaled in the 300s.
  • Jordan Jones (Colby) ran 38.92 to capture the 300-meter hurdles title.

Relays and Field Event Highlights

  • Burlington girls won both sprint relays (4×100 and 4×400).
  • Wichita-Collegiate’s Will Meyer added points in the 1600 and 3200.
  • Beloit dominated the throws, with Seyfert and Budke going 1-2 in shot put, and Thompson and Boss placing high in javelin.
