Lawrence Police Respond to Disturbing Bathroom Arrest

Lawrence, KS – Law enforcement officials are investigating a disturbing incident that unfolded at a Casey’s General Store located in the 1700 block of W. 6th Street in Lawrence on Wednesday afternoon. According to a police social media report, officers were called to the store just before 3:00 p.m. regarding a transient man with a dog who was refusing to leave the store’s bathroom.

Upon entering the restroom, officers made a shocking discovery: the man was reportedly naked and engaged in a sexual act upon himself. When officers instructed the man to stop and attempted to place him under arrest, he allegedly became combative, prompting the officers to request emergency backup.

Despite being tased twice, the man continued to physically resist the officers’ attempts to restrain him. Even after being placed in handcuffs within the confined space of the bathroom, the bizarre behavior escalated further. The man reportedly bit onto his dog’s ear and neck and refused to release his grip.

As additional officers arrived at the scene, they were finally able to subdue the man. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical (LDCFM) personnel then transported him to a local hospital for evaluation. Once medically cleared, the unidentified man will be taken to the Douglas County Correctional Facility and is expected to face a multitude of charges.

The altercation resulted in minor injuries to several officers, including one who was treated at the hospital for a puncturing bite wound allegedly inflicted by the suspect.

The dog involved in the incident was taken to the Lawrence Humane Society for treatment and evaluation of what were described as minor injuries. The investigation into this unusual and violent encounter is ongoing.
