Search Resumes for Missing Kayaker at Clinton Lake

CLINTON LAKE, KS — Emergency crews are returning to the waters of Clinton Lake this morning to continue the search for a kayaker who disappeared Sunday evening.

The incident began just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when authorities received a report of a boater in distress near the Clinton Marina. According to a statement from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the individual was in a kayak when the vessel tipped over. Witnesses reported that the kayaker entered the water and failed to resurface.

Search Efforts Timeline

The initial rescue operation involved multiple emergency units, but as evening fell, the mission transitioned into a recovery effort.

  • Sunday, 5:30 p.m.: Emergency crews dispatched to Clinton Marina following reports of a capsized kayak.
  • Sunday, 9:00 p.m.: The Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery team suspended operations due to unsafe conditions and lack of visibility.
  • Monday Morning: Specialized dive teams and recovery units are scheduled to resume the search.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the missing individual. Boaters are encouraged to avoid the search area near the marina to allow recovery teams to operate effectively.
