Both Lily DiNuzzo and Clare Meyer have won the prestigious Rudd Foundation scholarship. It’s being given this year to just 50 students from the state of Kansas planning to study at Fort Hays State, K-State, Emporia State, or Wichita State Universities.

Representatives from the Rudd Foundation came to school today to make the surprise announcement. Well done, girls! Well done.

Here are some details about the Wichita-based Rudd Foundation and Rudd Scholars program:

Students named as Rudd Scholars earn a “last dollar” scholarship, meaning that it pays every last dollar of the students’ college tuition, room and board, books, and materials related to completing their major. 75 finalists were interviewed from over 700 applicants. 50 Kansas students were chosen as Rudd Scholars this year.

Beyond the scholarship, the program includes personal and professional development summits, advising and training; networking opportunities, and scholar-to-scholar mentoring.

Beyond the financial aspect, the Rudd also offers opportunities for development and networking:

WHAT MAKES A RUDD SCHOLAR?

Driven to succeed.

Our committee selects students not based on what they lack, but what they possess in terms of hard work, grit, determination, and character.

That is why we aren’t looking for the brightest or busiest. We are searching for students who persevere. The ones who, though they get knocked down, get right back up. Those who will strive harder than everyone else and continue to meet their challenges head on. Potential scholars possess traits like fortitude, tenacity, ambition, and resolve. We find the ones who possess those traits in spades.
