Osawatomie Woman Arrested Following Alleged Baseball Bat Attack on Mother and Brief Standoff

OSAWATOMIE, Kan. — A 50-year-old Kansas woman is in custody facing multiple charges following a violent attack on her mother and a brief standoff with local police on Saturday morning.

Authorities were dispatched to a home at 601 17th Street just before 11:00 a.m. after receiving reports of an assault. According to Osawatomie Police Chief David Stuteville, the 68-year-old victim, Tina L. Day, fled to the residence after allegedly being struck multiple times in the head and body with a baseball bat.

Miami County EMS transported Day to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, police identified the suspect as Day’s daughter, Angela M. Platt. Following the incident, Platt barricaded herself inside the home and initially refused to communicate with law enforcement.

After several attempts to establish contact, a police officer successfully persuaded Platt to step outside onto an elevated rear deck. As the two spoke, Chief Stuteville and another officer quietly moved up the side of the deck to block her reentry into the house. Platt was then safely taken into custody without further incident.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at the home to collect evidence related to the assault.

Platt is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on requested charges of aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property.
