Wichita Man Arrested After Attempted Abduction of 8-Year-Old Girl

A Wichita man has been arrested after police say he attempted to abduct an 8-year-old girl Saturday morning in west Wichita.

According to the Wichita Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly before 11:30 a.m. to the 2800 block of West Central following a reported disturbance.

The caller told police that their 8-year-old child had left home and was walking in the 600 block of North Gordon when a man approached her and grabbed her.

Investigators say the girl was able to break free from the suspect and run to her grandparents’ home nearby. Her grandparents then called 911 to report the incident.

Officers quickly arrived in the area and located a suspect near North Gordon. The man was detained without incident and later identified through booking records as 27-year-old Tanner J. Warren.

Detectives with the department’s Wichita Police Department Exploited and Missing Child Unit conducted a follow-up investigation and ultimately arrested Warren.

He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of aggravated kidnapping and child abuse.

Police have not released additional details about the incident, which remains under investigation. Authorities praised the child for escaping and quickly getting to a safe location.
