TOPEKA, Kan. — A man from Ohio was killed in a single-vehicle crash on eastbound I-70 on Wednesday morning after a tire on the van he was in blew out, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP).
The KHP identified the victim as 23-year-old Isaiah Adkins of Ohio. The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. on August 20, near the intersection of I-70 and McFarland Road.
According to the KHP, a Ford Transit van was traveling in the right lane when one of its rear tires failed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered into the grassy median and rolled multiple times. Adkins was one of two occupants ejected from the van.
The Ford Transit was carrying 13 men, all from Ohio. The other occupants were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Two of the injured were airlifted from the scene. The condition of the other passengers has not been released.
