KANSAS CITY, MO. — A shocking incident at the Kansas City Chiefs practice facility last spring saw a bullet fired into head coach Andy Reid’s office while he was inside, according to a report from The Kansas City Star on Wednesday.
The Star, citing multiple sources, reported that the incident occurred in early May 2024. Reid was reportedly working alone in his office when a bullet, fired from outside the building, pierced the window and blinds before becoming lodged in a wall. The bullet was found in the wall between his bathroom and the office entry door.
Following the event, the team reportedly installed bulletproof glass on the windows of Reid’s office.
The report also stated that two other bullets struck the facility, with one hitting the third floor and another an outdoor air-conditioning unit. The incident was apparently kept quiet within the organization, with only a few people aware of what had happened.
A Chiefs spokesman declined to comment on the matter when contacted by the Associated Press.
The incident took place just months after Reid had guided the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl championship and third title in five years. The Chiefs went on to win the AFC again last season but ultimately lost in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reid, who has a career record of 273-146-1, ranks fourth on the NFL’s all-time wins list. He has coached the Chiefs for 12 seasons and the Philadelphia Eagles for 14 seasons.
