TORONTO – The Kansas City Royals, fueled by a clutch RBI double from Kyle Isbel in the 10th inning, rallied to defeat the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 on Sunday. The dramatic victory in Toronto secured the series win for the Royals, who took two of three games from the Blue Jays and returned to a .500 record at 56-56.
The game remained tight into the late innings, with Vinnie Pasquantino delivering a crucial two-out, tying single in the eighth, setting the stage for the extra-inning heroics.
The 10th inning saw the Royals explode for five runs, starting with Isbel’s decisive double down the line against Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Domínguez (2-4). Isbel, who connected on the first pitch he saw from Domínguez, a 96 mph fastball, drove in the go-ahead run. The rally continued as Jonathan India walked and Bobby Witt Jr. was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Tyler Tolbert, who singled to drive in two more runs. Witt then scored on a throwing error by catcher Alejandro Kirk, and Maikel Garcia capped the offensive outburst with a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Jays attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 10th, with Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger each hitting RBI singles to cut into Kansas City’s lead. However, it wasn’t enough to prevent Toronto (65-48) from losing a home series for the first time since June 20-22 against the White Sox.
Royals reliever Hunter Harvey (1-0) earned the win, pitching a scoreless inning in relief.
This win marks the Royals’ ninth consecutive victory in series finales, bringing their record in such games to an impressive 24-12. They are also 9-7 in series-deciding games this season. Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido contributed two hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Looking ahead, the Royals will continue their road trip, with LHP Bailey Falter (7-5, 3.73 ERA) scheduled to start against Red Sox RHP Brayan Bello (7-5, 3.19 ERA) on Monday. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 PM CDT on Superstar Country 102.5 FM & 1530 AM KQNK, with first pitch from Fenway Park in Boston set for 6:10 PM CDT.
