Thunder Secure Core: Holmgren and Williams Sign Multi-Year Extensions

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – July 14, 2025 – The Oklahoma City Thunder announced today that they have signed key young talents, forward/center Chet Holmgren and guard/forward Jalen Williams, to multi-year contract extensions. The agreements, per team policy, were not disclosed. The moves signal the Thunder’s commitment to building around the foundational pieces that led them to their historic 2025 NBA Championship.

Chet Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has quickly become an indispensable force for the Thunder. In 114 career games, all starts, the Minneapolis native has averaged 16.1 points on 51.9% shooting (37.2% from three-point range), 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.29 blocks in 28.9 minutes per game.

Holmgren’s impact was particularly felt during the Thunder’s championship run. In the 2024-25 season, he appeared in 32 games, averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.22 blocks. His stellar playoff performance included averages of 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.87 blocks. A defining moment came in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, where he tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, and an NBA record five blocks, helping secure the franchise’s first NBA Championship. At just 23 years old, Holmgren joined an elite group of only eight players in NBA playoff history age 23 or younger to eclipse 500-plus points, 250-plus rebounds, and 65-plus blocks.

His 2023-24 season was also one for the record books, as he became the first player in NBA history to record over 150 blocks, 150 assists, and 100 made three-pointers. He also tied the rookie record with nine games boasting three blocks and three made three-pointers.

Joining Holmgren in securing his future with the Thunder is Jalen Williams, whose ascent has been equally impressive. In 69 games, all starts, during the 2024-25 campaign, Williams posted career-highs of 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.61 steals (seventh in the NBA) in 32.4 minutes per game. He was one of only four players in the league to average at least 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.50 steals this season.

The third-year guard/forward garnered significant accolades in 2024-25, earning his first career All-Star appearance, being named to the All-NBA Third Team, and securing a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

Williams was a crucial component of the Thunder’s championship push, averaging 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.39 steals during the 2025 playoff run. His offensive prowess was on full display in the NBA Finals, where he scored 25-plus points in three consecutive games, a feat achieved by only five other players in the last 40 years before the age of 25.

Across his 215 career games (202 starts), the Santa Clara product has averaged 18.1 points on 51.3% shooting (38.2% from three-point range), 4.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.37 steals in 32.4 minutes per game.

These multi-year extensions for both Holmgren and Williams underscore the Thunder’s vision for sustained success, cementing their young core as they look to build on their recent championship triumph.
