Via Oklahoma City Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 17, 2026 – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the recipient of the Michael Jordan Trophy as the 2025-26 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, it was announced today by the NBA. This marks the second such honor for Gilgeous-Alexander as he becomes the 14th player in league history to be named the NBA MVP in consecutive seasons.

Gilgeous-Alexander appeared in 68 games (all starts) and averaged 31.1 points on 55.3% shooting, including 38.6% from three-point range, to go along with a career-high 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.40 steals in 33.2 minutes of action per game. He is the first player in NBA history to average at least 30 points on 55% shooting and 38% three-point shooting and he is the first guard in NBA history to eclipse 30-plus points on 55% shooting for a season.

The two-time MVP averaged 30-plus points on 50% shooting for the fourth-consecutive season, joining just Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan as the only players to achieve this feat. Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s longstanding record of 126 straight games scoring at least points on March 12th in a win at home over the Boston Celtics and his streak currently stands at 140 consecutive games. He also owns a streak of 68 games scoring 20-plus point performances in road contests, the longest streak in NBA history.

The eight-year NBA veteran led the NBA in overall win shares (15.2) during his 2026 MVP campaign. He helped lead the Thunder to its second-consecutive 60-plus win season, going 64-18, the best record in the NBA. The 64 wins mark the second-most wins in team history.

Gilgeous-Alexander and Steve Nash are the only Canadians to earn the NBA Most Valuable Player award, both accomplishing it two times.

The Hamilton, Ontario native is the first Thunder player to receive MVP honors multiple times and this award marks the fourth time in team history of a Thunder player receiving this honor (Kevin Durant, 2013-14 and Russell Westbrook, 2016-17). Oklahoma City is the fourth team in NBA history to have four MVP recipients in a 13-year span (Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers).
