Classic Games Take Center Stage at Marysville’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July

Marysville’s “An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July” is a chance to unplug and make memories with classic games and hands-on fun.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with the Walk, Run or Ride on the Blue River Rail Trail, followed by the countryside Road Rally at 10 a.m. Then the action shifts to Marysville City Park from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for hands-on games and classic competitions.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. and again from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Marysville City Park, the heart of the celebration comes alive with games that bring out the kid in everyone. Croquet, disc golf and kite flying invite participants to enjoy the sunshine at their own pace, while timed challenges and team games ramp up the energy.

Those feeling playful can test their skills at lemonade pong, flickin’ chicken and the water balloon toss. There’s also Human Bingo, Scavenger Hunts, Hot Wheels races and the Firecracker Walk—a musical game of chance with prizes. For those with a competitive streak, there’s the hula hoop contest or the hot dog eating contest.

The hot dog eating contest will take place at 3 p.m., immediately following the 2:30 p.m. Bike Parade and Pet Parade. Spectators are encouraged to stick around and cheer on the brave competitors ready to battle for Fourth of July glory.

“We’re bringing back the kinds of games people remember playing as kids,” said Brian Fragel, the event’s afternoon chairperson. “These are the things that get everyone playing together. It’s the kind of fun we wanted for this event.”

To help kids and families gear up for the Bike Parade and Pet Parade, the Parade Prep Station will be open in the park from 1 p.m. until 2:3 p.m. with free decorations and supplies for anyone wanting to add festive flair to their entry.

Food trucks, including It’s A Sweet Treat Day Bakery and Mama Ging’s House of Lumpia, will be on-site from 12 to 5 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed to help run games and activities. Shifts are available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Those interested in volunteering can call 785-562-3101 or email marysvillecms@gmail.com. Volunteers will receive a free event T-shirt.
