TOPEKA, KS – Authorities in Topeka have announced an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man that occurred earlier this month.
On Thursday, police arrested 19-year-old Pearson Carter III of Topeka, on requested charges including Murder in the 2nd Degree (intentional), Aggravated Battery, Criminal Carry of a Weapon, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm within city limits.
The arrest stems from an incident on Monday, June 3, just before 8:00 p.m., when Topeka police responded to reports of gunshots in the 700 block of SW Western. Upon arrival, first responders located 29-year-old Ian A. Mwaniki of Topeka, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Carter III. No further details have been released at this time.
