CLOUD COUNTY, Kan. – A Tipton man was injured in an early-morning single-vehicle rollover crash on Wednesday in Cloud County, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:17 a.m. on US-24 highway, roughly eight miles west of Miltonvale.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Bobby Dwayne Heckman, 38, of Tipton, was traveling westbound on US-24 when it veered across the center line and entered the south ditch.
The Highway Patrol’s investigation revealed that the pickup truck then struck a metal culvert located at a field access drive. This impact caused the vehicle to become airborne.
Continuing its trajectory, the truck then collided with a metal cattle-panel section of a fence as it went over the barrier. After clearing the fence, the Silverado landed and subsequently overturned multiple times before coming to a final rest on its driver’s side, facing north.
Heckman, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to North Central Kansas Medical Center in Concordia for treatment of what were described as suspected minor injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol stated that Heckman was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
