OLATHE, KS. – Investigators are working to determine if a lightning strike sparked a house fire that caused significant damage in Olathe early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews from both the Olathe and Lenexa Fire Departments responded to the blaze at 2 Pasadena Drive shortly after 5:30 a.m. on April 2nd, according to a social media post from the Olathe Fire Department.
Neighbors in the area reported hearing a distinct “lightning crack” just before observing flames emerging from the roof of the affected residence. Firefighters arrived to battle the fire, ultimately extinguishing it.
While there were fortunately no injuries reported among residents or emergency personnel, the house sustained significant damage. Two occupants of the home have been displaced as a result of the fire.
The American Red Cross has been called in to provide assistance to the displaced residents.
Investigators remain on the scene working to confirm the official cause of the fire, with the reported lightning strike being a primary focus based on witness accounts and weather conditions at the time.
