Series of Minor Earthquakes Continue To Shake Glen Elder, Kansas

Glen Elder, KS – Residents of Glen Elder, Kansas, have experienced a series of minor earthquakes over the past few days, with the earliest tremors recorded in the early hours of March 13, 2025.

The seismic activity began at approximately 2:25 AM on March 13th, with a magnitude 3.2 earthquake striking directly southeast of Glen Elder. According to seismological data, this initial quake originated at a depth of approximately 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).

Following the initial tremor, the area experienced several more minor quakes:

  • At 2:58 AM on March 13th, a magnitude 2.7 earthquake occurred approximately 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) southwest of Glen Elder, also at a depth of 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).
  • At 6:27 AM on March 13th, another magnitude 2.7 earthquake was recorded approximately 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) northwest of the town, again at a depth of 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).
  • On March 15th, at 4:34 AM, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck directly west northwest of Glen Elder, this time at a depth of approximately 4.8 miles (7.8 kilometers).
  • Later that day, at 6:21 PM, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake occurred approximately 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) south southeast of Glen Elder, at a depth of 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).
  • Finally, at 9:20 PM on March 15th, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake was recorded approximately 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) northwest of Glen Elder, at a depth of 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).

While these earthquakes are considered minor, and reports of damage are currently nonexistent, the repeated tremors have caused concern among local residents.

Seismologists continue to monitor the area for any further activity. It is important to remember that small earthquakes are common in many areas, and it is always good to be prepared.
