TOPEKA, KS – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for a large portion of Kansas, stretching from the northeast to the central part of the state. This includes numerous counties and cities, with potential wind chill temperatures plummeting to as low as 29 below zero.
The affected areas include, but are not limited to, the following counties: Republic, Washington, Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Lyon, Osage, Franklin, Coffey, and Anderson.
Major cities within this watch area include Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, Emporia, Ottawa, Junction City, and Hiawatha, along with dozens of smaller towns.
