FREMONT, Neb. – A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for portions of southwest Iowa and southeast Nebraska, including the cities of Fremont, Fairbury, Tecumseh, Beatrice, and Nebraska City. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Wednesday.
The affected area includes the counties of Fremont, Page, Otoe, Jefferson, Gage, and Johnson. Other communities within the warning zone include Farragut, Sidney, Hamburg, Sterling, Shenandoah, Tabor, and Clarinda.
Heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations between 5 and 7 inches. The National Weather Service warns that travel will be very difficult, impacting both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Winds are expected to be light, blowing from the northeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Snow is forecast to spread across the area from west to east between 6 PM Tuesday and midnight Wednesday morning, with the heaviest snow falling between midnight and 6 AM Wednesday. The snow is then expected to taper off quickly from west to east between noon and 6 PM Wednesday.
