Patrick Mahomes showcased his resilience and leadership as the Kansas City Chiefs rallied from a 10-0 deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 17-10. Mahomes completed 245 passing yards and a touchdown while reconnecting with Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs’ defense played a crucial role in the victory, limiting the Chargers’ offense. Despite losing wide receiver Rashee Rice to a season-ending injury, the Chiefs’ offense remained effective.
The Chargers scored 10 points off Chiefs turnovers but struggled to sustain drives in the second half. Justin Herbert faced pressure from the Chiefs’ defense and completed only 29 of 49 passes.
Samaje Perine’s 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave the Chiefs the lead. The Chiefs’ defense held strong, forcing the Chargers to go three-and-out on four of their eight possessions in the final three quarters.
Mahomes completed passes to six different receivers, with Travis Kelce leading the team with seven receptions for 89 yards. Xavier Worthy contributed three catches for 73 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes.
The Chiefs’ defense also capitalized on Herbert’s limited mobility due to a high ankle sprain and the absence of key offensive linemen. Jones sacked Herbert twice, and the Chiefs hit him 10 times.
The victory improved the Chiefs’ record to 4-0, marking their best start since 2020. The Chiefs have now won six consecutive games against the Chargers and extended their road winning streak against their AFC West rival to 11 games.
