Royals Top Braves 4-2; Witt Clinches AL Batting Title

The Kansas City Royals secured the second American League wild card spot with a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday and with help from the Detroit Tigers falling to the Chicago White Sox 9-5. The Braves’ loss prevented them from clinching a postseason berth.

The Braves will now face the New York Mets in a doubleheader on Monday to determine their playoff fate. The Braves and Mets are tied at 88-72, while the Arizona Diamondbacks finished the season at 89-73.

Charlie Morton’s outing for the Braves was cut short in the fifth inning due to lower body fatigue. He allowed four runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Braves struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, while Alec Marsh pitched effectively for the Royals, earning the win. Kris Bubic recorded a scoreless ninth inning, securing the save.

Bobby Witt Jr. finished the season with a .332 batting average, clinching the AL batting title.
