Yonny Chirinos Shines as Miami Marlins Secure 2-1 Win Over Kansas City Royals

The Miami Marlins secured a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday evening, with Nick Gordon’s infield hit serving as the highlight of their late two-out rally. After struggling to generate offense for the majority of the game, the Marlins came alive in the seventh inning, recording four hits and scoring both runs against relievers Carlos Hernández and Will Smith. Otto López played a crucial role in the rally, doubling and eventually scoring the tying run due to a throwing error by second baseman Maikel Garcia. Gordon later crossed home plate thanks to Jazz Chisholm’s infield hit and Smith’s subsequent throwing error. López had an impressive performance, contributing two hits and accounting for four of the Marlins’ 11 hits in the series.

The Marlins’ pitching staff also played a significant role in their victory. Starter Yonny Chirinos and four relievers retired 15 consecutive Royals hitters before Salvador Perez broke the streak with a single in the ninth inning. Chirinos, making his second start of the season, allowed only one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five in five innings. A.J. Puk earned the win, striking out two batters and recording four outs. Tanner Scott secured his 10th save of the season as the Marlins continue to find success, winning five out of their last seven games.

On the other side, Seth Lugo delivered an impressive performance for the Royals, pitching four hitless innings and allowing only a second-inning walk. He finished the game with six shutout innings, surrendering just two hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Lugo currently leads the majors with 110 innings pitched and holds the record for the most starts of at least six innings with no more than two runs allowed. Despite Lugo’s strong outing, the Royals struggled to generate offense, managing only four hits and suffering their twelfth loss in the last sixteen games.

The final game of the 3-game series between Kansas City and Miami is scheduled for today at 1:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium. Brady Singer, with a record of 4-4 and a 3.29 ERA, will be the starting pitcher for Kansas City, while Valente Bellozo, with no recorded ERA, will be on the mound for Miami.

Following this game, the next broadcast on Classic Hits KQNK will be on Thursday when the Royals will be hosting the division-leading Cleveland Guardians. The first pitch on Thursday is set for 7:10 p.m., with the pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. on KQNK.
