Goheen & Guttery Add to Osborne All-Star Tradition

The 39th Annual Kansas 8-Man All-Star Games are set to take place on Saturday at Trojan Field in Beloit. In the KD Country 94 and Z 96.3 “The Lake” listening area, most of the athletes will play in the Division II game in the afternoon. That includes Osborne Bulldog representatives Nathan Goheen and Doak Guttery. The pair represent the 25th and 26th selections to the 8-Man All-Star Game for Osborne since they moved down from 11-man 14 seasons ago.

As was the case with the all-stars before, Goheen and Guttery have earned their spot on the DII East team in 2024. After a very rare below .500 season their freshman year in which Osborne went 4-5, the two teamed together with the rest of their Bulldog teammates to post winning records over the next three seasons, combining to go 24-7 from 2021-2023. Each of the past two seasons, the Bulldogs were 9-2 and saw their season end in the third round of the playoffs against eventual state champion Axtell.

Both Goheen and Guttery rotated through different positions for different reasons throughout their career. Both players also had to deal with injuries throughout as Goheen battled a shoulder injury during his junior season and Guttery had back issues that nearly caused him to miss his senior season. In the end, they both fought through the challenges as Goheen was a first team all-state linebacker this past season and Guttery received honorable mention all-state as a back.

Goheen led the Bulldog defense with 89 tackles including 18 for loss and also had a team high 8.5 sacks. He also added three fumble recoveries and an interception. For his career, Goheen registered 255 tackles with 42 for loss, 18.5 sacks and nine fumble recoveries. He broke out as a focal point on offense in his final two seasons. Playing tight end, Goheen had a combined 30 catches with 577 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Goheen offered his thoughts on fighting through the shoulder injury and the different roles he played in his time at Osborne.

Guttery also played a multitude of roles for Steve Tiernan’s Bulldogs. He started at quarterback most of his sophomore and junior season and split time depending on injury status between quarterback and end during his senior campaign. For his career, he threw for 1,584 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for another 1,415 and 31 touchdowns, with the majority of those number in his junior season, in which he ran for 912 yards and 20 scores. On defense, he finished his career with 188 total tackles with 25 for loss and added 9.5 sacks, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Guttery discussed the real possibility of missing his senior year with the back injury and what he learned from playing for coach Tiernan these past four seasons.

Catch Osborne Bulldog graduates Doak Guttery and Nathan Goheen in the 8-Man DII All-Star Game at Trojan Field in Beloit on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:30 and if you can’t make it to the games, listen on KD Country 94 or here on the web at 8manallstars.com. Pregame coverage is slated for 1:00 on the 8-Man All-Star Game Radio Network.
