Royals Fall To Padres 7-3 Sunday; Look To Avoid Sweep Sunday

On Saturday, the San Diego Padres emerged victorious with a 7-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. Randy Vásquez took the mound as the starting pitcher, replacing Joe Musgrove who was unable to play due to right elbow inflammation. Vásquez performed admirably, pitching for five innings and allowing three runs and four hits. He showcased his skills with five strikeouts and only one walk.

In the fourth inning, the Padres found themselves trailing 3-2. However, Ha-Seong Kim stepped up to the plate and delivered a crucial go-ahead three-run double to left field off Royals’ pitcher Alec Marsh. This hit cleared the bases and gave the Padres the lead they needed to secure the victory. Marsh struggled throughout the game, surrendering five earned runs and seven hits in five innings. He walked three batters and struck out three.

Both Fernando Tatis Jr. and Kyle Higashioka contributed to the Padres’ success with their home runs. Tatis Jr. started the game with a solo homer in the first inning, giving the Padres an early 1-0 lead. However, Vinnie Pasquantino of the Royals responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning, putting his team ahead. Despite Pasquantino’s strong performance, he was unable to bring the Royals closer to victory in the seventh inning when he struck out with the bases loaded. Higashioka sealed the Padres’ win with a home run in the ninth inning, marking his second of the season.

The Padres will now aim for their first sweep of the season in the upcoming game on Sunday. On the other hand, the Royals will be determined to avoid being swept for the first time this year. Both teams will undoubtedly bring their best efforts to the field as they strive for success in this highly anticipated matchup.

The Royals will have LHP Cole Ragans (4-4, 3.36 ERA) on the mound, while the Padres will send RHP Michael King (4-4, 4.09 ERA) to face him on Sunday. The game will begin at 1:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium, and pregame coverage will start at 12:30 p.m. on Classic Hits KQNK 106.7 FM, 102.5 FM & 1530 AM.
