MJ Melendez smashed his third home run of the series, a two-run shot during a three-run seventh inning, propelling the Kansas City Royals to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, completing a four-game sweep. The White Sox managed to break their 19-inning scoreless streak in the fourth inning and took a 3-0 lead in the fifth, but Hunter Renroe’s two-run homer off starter Garrett Crochet narrowed the gap.
In the sixth inning, Melendez struck again with a two-run homer off Deivi García, giving the Royals a 4-3 lead. This marked Melendez’s third go-ahead hit of the series, following his go-ahead single in the eighth inning on Friday and his tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning on Saturday. Celebrating his success, Melendez jubilantly flipped his bat.
The Royals extended their lead in the seventh when Kyle Isbel reached base on an infield hit that was scored as an error by reliever Dominic Leone, who failed to catch the throw to first from second baseman Lenyn Sosa. John Schreiber pitched a flawless one-hit seventh inning, while James McArthur secured his second save by getting three outs. With this victory, the Royals completed their first four-game sweep since 2021.
In the upcoming schedule, the Royals are scheduled to host Houston for a three-game series that will commence on Tuesday. Left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans, who currently holds a record of 0-1 with a 1.46 ERA, is set to take the mound as the starting pitcher. Tune in to Classic Hits KQNK for the pregame show starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with the first pitch of the game scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
