Marysville city council met in special session last Thursday, and following executive session unanimously approved a motion to extend an offer to Joshua Haverkamp for the post of City Administrator, with a contract to be negotiated. Mayor Todd Frye indicated no update at the regular meeting Monday evening. Haverkamp was among three finalists interviewed for the position, and is currently with the Kansas City, Missouri city manager’s office. He is a graduate of Kansas State, with a major in political science and a master’s in public administration.

Council heard a presentation on creation of a storm water utility prior to the regular meeting Monday.

Approval was given for Marysville Kiwanis to use the city park Saturday, March 23rd from 12-2 for the annual easter egg hunt, and for Blue Valley Technologies and Marysville Chamber & Main Street to block off the 600 block of Broadway April 27th for a community celebration as they are finishing the fiber upgrade.

Renewal of annual $5,000 membership with Marshall County Partnership for Growth brought discussion, with comment that previous years $2,500 contribution would be appropriate. The motion for $5,000 passed on a 5-2-1 vote, with Colleen Behrens and Keith Beikman no, and Jeff Keating abstained.

Late fees on past due water bills were discussed, as some citizens received bills late. No change in the policy was adopted, and citizens are reminded that e-statement and automatic withdrawal options are available by contacting city hall.

City of Blue Rapids also reported late delivery and announced that the due date for February will be extended to March 18th, asking anyone who has not received a bill contact the city office.

A request was heard for dust control at the Lakeview Sports Complex.

A budget meeting is planned this Thursday evening at 6, at the fire station.

City hall will be without power Wednesday, with limited service available, but will be staffed as usual.

The mayor suggested moving forward with drafting a request for qualifications for a drainage study that could be a springboard for conversations regarding storm sewer improvements, and possible establishment of a storm sewer district. Unanimous approval was given to proceed.

Pony Express Partnership for Children will host an open house for the Bright Beginnings childcare facility at the Lincoln Center, on north Fourth Street in Marysville Saturday, March 16th from 9-11 a.m.

Marysville Chamber & Main Street will host a sparkler meeting Tuesday, March 19th at 5:30 at the historic depot. Anyone interested, and willing to volunteer to work with others on maintaining green spaces in the community is encouraged to attend or contact Wayne Kruse. The teams will work about an hour each week late march through October pulling weeds and maintaining flowers.
