BUTLER COUNTY — Law enforcement officials are actively investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a young bicyclist injured near an elementary school on Sunday evening.
According to a media release from the Augusta Department of Public Safety, emergency crews responded to the 2400 block of Mainsgate, near Ewalt Elementary School, just after 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Investigators determined that a child riding a bicycle was struck by a passing motorist. While the driver momentarily stopped following the collision, they failed to remain at the scene or report the accident to emergency services, fleeing the area shortly after the impact.
Suspect Vehicle Description: Police are searching for a gray SUV that was last seen traveling northbound on Mainsgate.
The child sustained minor injuries in the crash. Local authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has home surveillance or dashcam footage in the area around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, to come forward.
