BUTLER COUNTY, Kan.—An unusual accident on Sunday evening in Butler County resulted in a vintage aircraft flipping over after its landing gear struck a car on an adjacent road.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1943 Boeing Aircraft, piloted by 68-year-old Ryan Stewart of Benton, was on a short approach to the south-facing runway at Stearman Field in Benton just after 5 p.m.
The plane’s landing gear made contact with a 2020 Toyota Corolla, driven by 71-year-old Rebeca Rodriguez of Benton, who was traveling eastbound on Southwest 30th Street. The impact caused the aircraft to hit the ground and flip onto its top.
Despite the dramatic nature of the accident, there were no injuries reported. The pilot, a passenger on the plane, and the driver of the car were all unharmed.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
