Madsen’s Record-Breaking Night Leads Utah Past No. 17 Kansas

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Gabe Madsen delivered a performance for the ages, scoring 24 points and breaking Utah’s career three-point record, as the Utes upset No. 17 Kansas 74-67 on Saturday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Madsen’s five three-pointers, including the record-breaker with 1:58 remaining, propelled Utah to victory. His two free throws with 26 seconds left sealed the deal for the Utes.

Utah (14-11, 6-8 Big 12) maintained the lead throughout the game, but Kansas (17-8, 8-6) battled back to tie the score at 60. However, the Utes finished strong, securing their first Quad 1 win in ten attempts.

Despite a brief injury scare, Zeke Mayo led the Jayhawks with 15 points. Dajuan Harris Jr. added 14 points, and Hunter Dickinson contributed 12. Dickinson reached a milestone of his own, surpassing 1,000 points as a Kansas Jayhawk. He joins an elite group of just 14 players in NCAA history to achieve this feat at two different schools. Notably, Dickinson reached the 1,000-point mark faster than any Jayhawk under Coach Self, accomplishing the feat in just 58 games.

Ezra Ausar scored 12 points for Utah, while Jake Wahlin contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds.

A technical foul called on Self with 11:37 remaining, and the subsequent free throws by Madsen, extended Utah’s lead to 60-49. Kansas then mounted an 11-point run to tie the game.
