One Person Killed in McPherson County Accident

A fatal accident occurred in McPherson County just after 11:00 p.m. on Monday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by 51-year-old Sam E. Dial of Newton was traveling northbound on 16th Avenue, approximately half a mile west of Interstate 135.

The road abruptly ended at U.S. 81. The pickup truck continued northbound, colliding with the dead-end guardrail and a culvert.

Dial was pronounced deceased at the scene and was subsequently transported to the Sedgwick Regional Forensic Science Center.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that Dial was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
