Riley County police are investigating a recent spike in vehicle burglaries and thefts in Manhattan. In the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, officers took 11 reports of vehicle burglaries and two vehicle thefts.
The majority of these incidents occurred on the northwest side of Manhattan, often in well-lit areas. Stolen items included cash, electronics, and personal belongings.
Police believe many of these crimes are connected and are reviewing surveillance footage from Ring cameras and the Aggieville parking garage.
To protect your vehicle and belongings, police recommend:
- Lock your car: Even when parked at home or for short trips.
- Remove valuables: Don’t leave items visible inside your car.
- Park smart: Choose well-lit areas and use garages when possible.
- Avoid temptation: Don’t leave items like mail or garage door openers visible.
One suspect has been arrested in connection with two vehicle thefts, but the investigation into the other burglaries continues.
