No. 1 Kansas to Face No. 12 Duke in Vegas Showdown

LAWRENCE, Kan. — In a battle of blue bloods, No. 1 Kansas (5-0) will play No. 12 Duke (4-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 26 in the Vegas Showdown in Las Vegas, Nevada. The contest will start at 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN.

Kansas ranks second with 2,398 all-time victories, while Duke is fourth at 2,304.

The top-ranked Jayhawks are coming off an 84-66 win against UNCW on Nov. 19 in Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks are 5-0 for the ninth time in the Bill Self era (since 2003-04). Duke is coming off a 69-55 win at Big 12 foe Arizona on Nov. 22.

Duke leads the overall series with Kansas, 8-5, yet KU has won three of the last four and five of the last seven meetings. This will be the eighth-straight meeting between KU and Duke with both teams being ranked.

Kansas is 1-0 against ranked teams this season with its 92-89 win versus North Carolina (11/8). KU has won at least seven games versus ranked foes in each of the last four seasons and is 128-77 against ranked opponents in the Bill Self era.

With the Nov. 12 win against Michigan State, Kansas head coach Bill Self passed Phog Allen as the winningest coach in KU history. Self is 593-143 in his 22nd season at KU. Phog Allen was 590-129 in 36 seasons on the KU sidelines.

With Kansas’ win against UNCW on Nov. 19, Bill Self won his 800th career game, becoming the 16th overall and third active coach to reach 800 wins. In 1,048 games, Self is the fourth-fastest head coach to reach 800 career wins.

Through five games, Kansas is averaging 34.0 bench points per contest, which is third in the Big 12 and 37th nationally. The highest bench points per game average in the Bill Self era is 25.5 in 2006-07. Kansas has a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is second in the Big 12 and sixth nationally.

Kansas has shown depth through its first two outings as the bench is averaging 34.0 points per game, which is the highest bench points average in the Bill Self era (2003-04 to present).

Graduate C Hunter Dickinson leads Kansas in scoring at 17.8 ppg, which is third in the Big 12, and rebounding at 10.4 rpg, which is third in the conference and 15th nationally. Dickinson also leads KU with nine blocked shots and nine steals. Senior G Zeke Mayo is next in scoring at 12.6 points per game and he is tied for the team high with nine three pointers made. Mayo pulls down 5.2 rebounds per contest.

Junior G AJ Storr is next in scoring at 9.4 points per game and he has made six threes. Graduate G Dajuan Harris is a four-year starter who is coming off a season-high 17 points against UNCW (11/19). Harris leads KU with 26 assists to go with his 9.2 ppg. Senior F KJ Adams is a starter who averages 8.6 points per game. Adams had 14 assists and four blocked shots. Freshman F Flory Bidunga is scoring 8.4 points per game and is 19-for-23 (82.6%) from the field.

Junior G Rylan Griffen has started every game this season with 7.8 ppg. Griffen has also made nine threes this season. Other KU regulars include senior G David Coit (5.4 ppg, 11 assists), graduate G Shakeel Moore (2.0 ppg), redshirt-junior F Zach Clemence (1.8 ppg) and freshman G Rakease Passmore (1.2 ppg).

Kansas leads the overall series with Furman, 1-0. The Jayhawks and Paladins met Dec. 20, 1993, in Allen Fieldhouse and KU won 101-60.
