Royals Snap Scoring Drought, Hold On to Wild Card Spot

Kyle Isbel ended Kansas City’s 27-inning scoreless streak with a thrilling run in the 10th inning, securing a 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals. Cole Ragans pitched a solid six innings, allowing only three hits.

Isbel, the Royals’ automatic runner to start the 10th, advanced to third base on Bobby Witt Jr.’s infield single and scored on Nasim Nuñez’s errant throw to first base.

The victory solidified the Royals’ hold on the second American League wild card spot, maintaining a two-game lead over Minnesota. Detroit also remains two games behind Minnesota.

Despite struggling to capitalize on scoring opportunities in previous games, the Royals were able to break through in the 10th inning. Kyle Finnegan escaped a jam in the bottom of the 10th, while Lucas Erceg earned the save for the Royals.

Ragans continued his strong pitching performance, lowering his September ERA to 1.08. Kris Bubic, Sam Long, and Angel Zerpa combined to pitch three scoreless innings, setting the stage for the Royals’ win.

The Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals continue their three-game series on Wednesday night. Michael Lorenzen (7-6, 3.43 ERA) will start for the Royals, while DJ Herz (4-8, 4.30 ERA) will take the mound for the Nationals.

The first pitch is scheduled for 5:45 PM at Nationals Park, with pregame coverage beginning at 5:00 PM on SuperStar Country 102.5 & 1530 AM.
