Wenceel Pérez’s timely two-run double proved instrumental in Detroit’s comeback. Brenan Hanifee earned the pitching win, while Jason Foley secured the victory with a perfect ninth inning.
Bobby Witt Jr.’s grand slam provided an early advantage for Kansas City, but the Royals squandered multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game. Sam Long was credited with the loss for Kansas City, allowing three runs in relief.
Detroit’s rally began in the fifth inning, highlighted by Keith’s home run. The Royals had chances to score in the seventh and eighth innings but were unable to capitalize.
The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers will face off in the second game of their three-game series at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday evening. Casey Mize (2-6, 4.47 ERA) will take the mound for Detroit, while Cole Ragans (11-9, 3.32 ERA) will represent the Royals.
