Car Crash Claims Life of 20-Year-Old Atwood Resident

A tragic accident occurred in Rawlins County, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man on Thursday evening shortly after 8:30 p.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Mitchell C. Howard, a resident of Atwood, was driving a 1997 Ford passenger vehicle eastbound on Atwood Cemetery Road, located just west of Kansas Highway 25.

Howard’s vehicle veered off the road to the right and collided with a concrete bridge pillar. Following the impact, the car spun 90 degrees in a counterclockwise direction before coming to a halt in a ditch, facing north. Despite being properly restrained at the time of the accident, Howard was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Baalmann Mortuary.
