Kansas City Royals Secure Fifth Consecutive Win with Commanding 9-2 Triumph Against Detroit Tigers

Salvador Perez delivered an impressive performance with three hits, including a home run, as the Kansas City Royals secured their fifth consecutive victory by decisively defeating Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers with a score of 9-2 on Friday evening. The Royals showcased their offensive prowess, particularly in a dominant seventh inning that saw them score six runs, effectively breaking the game open.

Cole Ragans, with a record of 8-7, pitched effectively, limiting the Tigers to just two runs on two hits over 5 2/3 innings, while also issuing four walks and striking out six batters. In contrast, Skubal, who holds a season record of 12-4, struggled against the Royals, allowing a season-high five runs on seven hits across 6 1/3 innings. Despite striking out eight, Skubal’s performance against Kansas City has been challenging, as he now holds a 2-9 record against them with a 5.05 ERA in 14 matchups, 12 of which were starts.

The Tigers initially took a 2-0 lead thanks to Justyn-Henry Malloy’s home run in the first inning, but the Royals quickly responded. Perez’s home run in the second inning narrowed the gap to 2-1, and subsequent plays allowed the Royals to take the lead. The seventh inning was particularly notable, featuring a series of nine consecutive hits, including a two-run single from Vinnie Pasquantino, which contributed to the Royals’ commanding lead. Despite Wenceel Pérez’s remarkable catch in the eighth inning that denied Perez a potential fourth hit, the Royals maintained control throughout the game.

This evening, Kansas City is set to compete against Detroit in the third of a four-game series, featuring Michael Lorenzen (5-6, 3.81 ERA) making his debut for the Royals. The Detroit Tigers have not yet disclosed their starting pitcher for tonight’s matchup. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. on SuperStar Country 102.5 & 1530 AM.
