Kansas City Royals Secure Series Sweep with Seth Lugo’s Stellar Pitching Display | Royals Win 4-1

Seth Lugo showcased an impressive performance in his first career complete game, retiring 14 consecutive batters as the Kansas City Royals secured a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Lugo, with a record of 12-4, managed to limit the White Sox to just one run while striking out six batters over 103 pitches. Despite allowing an infield hit to Tommy Pham at the start of the game, Lugo quickly settled in and dominated the opposition.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Nicky Lopez was hit by a pitch and later, giving the Royals the lead. The tie was broken in the eighth inning when Hunter Renfroe’s single brought Bobby Witt Jr. home, resulting in a 4-1 lead for Kansas City. The Royals’ offense came alive in the late innings, collecting five hits and scoring three crucial runs against White Sox reliever John Brebbia.

With this victory, the Royals completed their sixth series sweep, showcasing their dominance over the struggling White Sox. Chicago’s bullpen struggles continued, leading the majors with 24 blown saves and 33 losses. Despite a solid performance from Drew Thorpe, who pitched six shutout innings, the White Sox were unable to overcome the Royals’ strong offensive display. Pham’s two hits were not enough to prevent Chicago from suffering their seventh consecutive loss and enduring their 14th series sweep of the season.

Kansas City will commence a 3-game home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Tune in to SuperStar Country 102.5 & 1530 AM for pregame coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. The first pitch at Kauffman Stadium is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Yilber Diaz (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for Arizona, while Cole Ragans (6-6, 3.16 ERA) will take the mound for Kansas City.
