Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs Office Renamed to Kansas Office of Veterans Services

TOPEKA – The Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs Office (KCVAO) is pleased to announce that, effective July 1, 2024, it will be officially renamed to the Kansas Office of Veterans Services (KOVS). The name change reflects a streamlined and modernized identity for the agency, aligning with its ongoing commitment to serve Kansas Veterans and their families with the utmost dedication and efficiency.

“While the agency’s name is changing, its mission and core functions remain steadfast,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “The name change removes confusion with the federal Department of Veterans Affairs and better aligns with the agency’s purpose.”

KOVS will continue to provide comprehensive support and resources to Veterans across the state, including benefits assistance, health care services, dignified interments, educational opportunities, and advocacy.

“Our top priority continues to be ensuring that Veterans and their families receive the benefits and compensation they’ve earned, as well as having ready access to eligible healthcare benefits,” said Director Bill Turner. “The change in our name does not alter our mission or our high-quality services.”

The Kansas Office of Veterans Services will maintain all existing office locations and contact numbers. Veterans and their families can continue to seek assistance as before and expect the same level of support.

In addition to the name change, KOVS will launch a modernized website. The agency’s new address will be www.kovs.ks.gov. The old website address will automatically redirect to the new address.

The name change resulted from legislation passed in HB 2760 by the 2024 Kansas Legislature. Governor Laura Kelly signed the legislation on April 24, 2024, and it becomes law on July 1, 2024.
