In Sunday’s game, Shohei Ohtani showcased his power with a two-homer performance, marking his second such game this season. Meanwhile, Tyler Glasnow delivered an impressive pitching performance, allowing only three hits over seven innings. The Los Angeles Dodgers emerged victorious with a 3-0 win against the Kansas City Royals. However, the victory was overshadowed by the unfortunate injury to Mookie Betts, who left the game in the seventh inning after a pitch broke a bone in his left hand.
Despite winning two out of three games in the series, the Dodgers faced a challenging weekend as two of their star players will now face an extended period on the sidelines. Prior to the game, right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Betts, on the other hand, made an appearance in the clubhouse after the game and revealed that he would be visiting a hand specialist on Monday to determine the severity of his injury and the length of his absence.
While the Dodgers dealt with the setbacks, Freddie Freeman also made a significant contribution to the team’s victory by hitting a home run. On the opposing side, Bobby Witt Jr., who currently leads the majors with a .327 batting average, managed to secure one of the Kansas City Royals’ three hits. Despite the standout performances by Ohtani and Glasnow, Betts’ injury cast a shadow over the game. Ohtani, who had been struggling with his batting average in June, managed to turn things around with a powerful display, hitting a 451-foot home run and securing his 18th career multihomer game. Glasnow’s dominant pitching, with nine strikeouts, also played a crucial role in the Dodgers’ triumph.
On Monday, Kansas City will have a day of rest before embarking on a 3-game series against the Athletics in Oakland. The Royals will have Alec Marsh (5-3, 3.63 ERA) as their starting pitcher, while the Athletics will have Hogan Harris (0-0, 2.49 ERA) on the mound. The game is set to begin at 8:40 p.m., with pregame coverage starting at 8:00 p.m. on Classic Hits KQNK 106.7 FM, 102.5 FM & 1530 AM from Oakland Coliseum.
