Whitt Homers Twice; Royals Blast Tigers 10-3 Tuesday

Bobby Witt Jr. hit two home runs to help the Kansas City Royals secure a 10-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night, marking their fifth consecutive win. The game started with Maikel Garcia hitting a triple and scoring on Witt’s infield hit. Witt then stole second base and crossed home plate on Salvador Perez’s single to right field.

In the second inning, Kyle Isbel and Garcia both singled before Witt smashed a 468-foot home run off Casey Mize’s splitter, the longest of his career, landing in the fountains. Mize struggled, giving up six runs on nine hits with just two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings, marking the shortest outing of his career.

Garcia continued his impressive performance by hitting an RBI triple and scoring on Witt’s sacrifice fly in the third inning, extending the Royals’ lead to 8-0. Garcia, who scored three runs and matched his career-best with four hits, also extended his hitting streak to nine games. Witt later added a solo home run in the sixth inning, his fourth multiple home run game, and matched his career-best with six RBIs. Hunter Renfroe’s homer in the seventh inning sealed the victory for Kansas City, who have been dominant during their current homestand, leading or being tied for all 45 innings and not trailing since their loss to Seattle.

The Royals aim to complete a series sweep against the Tigers this afternoon, starting at 1:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Cole Ragans (3-3, 3.70 ERA) will take the mound for Kansas City, while Tarik Skubal (6-0, 1.80 ERA) will pitch for the Tigers. Tune in to Classic Hits KQNK for our next broadcast on Friday, featuring the Royals facing the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-game series in the late afternoon. Starting pitchers for this upcoming game have not been announced yet.
