Royals Shut Out In Series Finale With Orioles 5-0

Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg both hit home runs consecutively against Royals starter Seth Lugo, breaking his streak of not allowing a home run since last September. This offensive surge propelled the Orioles to a 5-0 victory over Kansas City on Sunday. Cole Irvin delivered a strong pitching performance for Baltimore, allowing only four hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings to secure his first win since June 10, 2023.

Lugo, who had an impressive streak of 41 1/3 innings without giving up a home run, struggled against the Orioles’ lineup. Cowser and Westburg’s back-to-back homers in the third inning set the tone for Baltimore’s dominant performance. Despite the Royals’ efforts, they were unable to score a run in the game, marking their first shutout of the season after being blanked 15 times last year.

In addition to the home runs by Cowser and Westburg, the Orioles’ offense was further boosted by Ryan Mountcastle’s RBI double and a bases-loaded walk by Westburg. The Royals attempted a late rally in the eighth inning but fell short as Danny Coulombe’s pitching sealed the victory for Baltimore. This win was a significant one for the Orioles, showcasing their offensive prowess and solid pitching performance against a tough opponent like the Royals.

Kansas City’s homestand will carry on tomorrow with the Toronto Blue Jays starting a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Brady Singer (2-0, 1.54 ERA) will be pitching for Kansas City, facing off against Yusei Kikuchi (1-1, 2.08 ERA). Tune in to the pregame show on Classic Hits KQNK 106.7 FM, 102.5 FM & 1530 AM starting at 6:00 p.m., with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
