The Kansas City Royals emerged victorious against the Baltimore Orioles with a 9-4 win on Friday night, effectively putting an end to the Orioles’ four-game winning streak. Vinnie Pasquantino and MJ Melendez played a crucial role in the Royals’ triumph, both hitting home runs to contribute to their team’s success. In the seventh inning, Adley Rutschman of the Orioles managed to hit his first career grand slam off Will Smith.
Dean Kremer, the Orioles’ pitcher, started the game strong by retiring the first 11 batters he faced. However, Pasquantino shattered his impressive streak by launching a 1-1 splitter into the right-field bullpen for a home run, marking his fourth of the season. Pasquantino has been on fire lately, hitting four home runs and driving in 11 RBIs during his impressive eight-game hitting streak. Additionally, Massey made a remarkable return from the injured list in his season debut, contributing two hits and two RBIs to the Royals’ victory.
The sixth inning proved to be a turning point for the Royals, as MJ Melendez ignited a five-run rally with an RBI single, breaking his 0-for-23 slump. This surge in momentum was further fueled by Massey and Hunter Renfroe, who each delivered two-run hits, propelling the Royals to a commanding 6-0 lead. In the seventh inning, Maikel Garcia ended his 0-for-26 slump with a leadoff single, setting the stage for Melendez to hit a three-run homer off Dillon Tate, solidifying the Royals’ dominance.
The Kansas City Royals’ triumph over the Baltimore Orioles marked their ninth consecutive home win, their longest home winning streak since May 27-June 15, 2016. Pitcher Marsh played a pivotal role in securing the victory, successfully navigating through challenging situations in the first and fourth innings. Despite allowing three hits and two walks, Marsh remained composed, striking out six batters in 5 2/3 scoreless innings. On the other hand, Kremer, the Orioles’ pitcher, struggled, conceding three runs, two hits, and three walks in the same duration. The Orioles’ bullpen also faced difficulties, surrendering six runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Although the Orioles fell short of the major league record for hitting at least three home runs in five consecutive games, their performance was commendable.
