Marysville Resident Involved In Fatality Accident Near Emporia

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a double fatality accident occurred Wednesday near U.S. Highway 50 and C road west of Emporia.

According to the highway patrol, the accident occurred approximately 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Reports indicate that a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Travis D. Edwards, 46, of Marysville, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 50 with a 2021 Kenworth tractor-trailer following, driven by Quintia M. Rowe, 32, of Norfolk, VA following.

A 2014 Subaru CrossTrek driven by Timothy M. Hoekstra, 67, of Chino, CA was heading westbound on U.S. Highway 50 with a 2019 Jeep Renegade following, driven by Ryan R. Miller, 29, of Independence, MO. A 2017 Ford Escape driven by Jacob L. Suenram, 32, of Lawrence was following the Jeep.

Crash logs indicate that Edwards’ tractor-trailer went left-of-center and hit Hoekstra’s CrossTrek, causing it to spin into the eastbound lane where it collided with Rowe’s tractor-trailer. Edwards continued eastbound over the center line and collided with Miller’s Jeep and Suenram’s Escape.

Miller and Suenram were both pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, and both were wearing their seatbelts. A child was also present in Suenrem’s vehicle, but the childs identity and injuries were not released by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Edwards, Hoekstra and a passenger in Hoekstra’s car, Judith E. Hoekstra, 69, of Chino, CA were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Rowe did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
