Lakeside High School Senior Sadie Henke-Cheney Named Kansas Governor’s Scholar

DOWNS, KAN. — Sadie Henke-Cheney, a senior at Lakeside High School in Downs, KS, has been recognized as a Kansas Governor’s Scholar. This prestigious award recognizes and honors the top academic one percent of Kansas high school seniors, celebrating their exceptional dedication to scholarship and learning.

To earn this elite state recognition, scholars are selected from accredited public and private schools across Kansas based on outstanding academic achievement. 

Beyond classroom excellence, the Governor’s Scholar program highlights students with well-rounded extracurricular involvement and strong character. Henke-Cheney has proven herself a dedicated student leader, currently serving as Senior Class President and having served as FCCLA Secretary for two years. Over her high school career, she has also been actively involved in band and golf for four years and served as Dance Captain during her four years in the dance program.

A strong commitment to her community further distinguishes her achievements. Henke-Cheney has been a two year member of the Downs Jr. Chamber, volunteers her time at the Downs Carnegie Library, where she assists the librarian and organizes children’s books, and with the local Girl Scouts. In addition to her studies, extracurriculars, and community service, she maintains local employment, having held positions at Beloit Country Club, Corner Drug and Gift, and Plum Creek.

Following her high school graduation, Henke-Cheney plans to attend college to pursue a Master’s Degree in Architecture. Lakeside High School congratulates Sadie on this outstanding achievement.
