Media Report: Klieman Set to Retire; Collin Klein Reportedly Named Next K-State Head Coach

MANHATTAN, KS — Kansas State football is reportedly undergoing a major leadership change, with head coach Chris Klieman set to retire and former Wildcat star and offensive coordinator Collin Klein ready to take the reins.

According to a report from the Manhattan Mercury, Klieman’s retirement could be officially announced as early as Wednesday.

Klieman recently completed his seventh season in Manhattan, compiling a strong 54-37 record highlighted by a Big 12 Championship in 2022. His tenure brought significant success and stability back to the program.

The Mercury states that Klein, a revered figure in K-State football history, will immediately succeed Klieman. Klein, who played quarterback for the Wildcats from 2009-2012 and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2012, has a deep connection to the program.

Klein was previously on the K-State coaching staff from 2017-2023, serving in various capacities including quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator. He spent the 2022-2023 seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Wildcats. He is currently the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

His reported return marks a major hire, bringing a celebrated alumni back to lead the program.
