Suspect Arrested in Wichita Shooting Following Disturbance and Raven Alert

WICHITA—A suspect has been taken into custody following a shooting incident that occurred Thursday afternoon in Wichita.

The incident began just after 1 p.m. when the Wichita Police Department was alerted to a possible shooting in the 900 Block of North Terrace by the city’s Raven gunshot detection system, according to a recent media release.

Responding officers determined that the shooting stemmed from a disturbance between two individuals who were known to each other. During the altercation, one of the individuals sustained a gunshot wound and fled the location in a private vehicle.

Approximately an hour after the initial alert, the victim’s girlfriend called 911. Officers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the 2400 block of South Minnesota, where they located a 47-year-old male with a gunshot injury to his lower leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Police have since arrested Darrick D. Reed, a 53-year-old male, in connection with the shooting. County arrest records show Reed was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He faces requested charges including aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review the case for formal charges.
