Arrest Made in Wichita Gas Station Shooting

WICHITA, KS – An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning at a northeast Wichita gas station. Authorities have booked 59-year-old Rhonda Mukes of Wichita on requested charges of second-degree murder.

The incident unfolded at approximately 3:13 a.m. Tuesday when officers were dispatched to the Valero gas and convenience store located at 2011 E. 21st Street. Upon arrival, police discovered 33-year-old Darries Mitchell of Wichita suffering from gunshot wounds. Mitchell was transported to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police spokesman Andrew Ford confirmed the details of the dispatch and discovery. Following the investigation, Mukes was booked into custody just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Sedgwick County Arrest report.

The case will now be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
